Picasso. The Vallauris series

The Museum of Montserrat has a very interesting series of posters by Pablo Picasso. Most of these affiches have a handwritten dedication by the author and they all come from the donation of the architect Xavier Busquets in 1990. Busquets became Picassos’s friend after the commission of the sgraffito design that we can see on the front building of the Association of Architects, at Cathedral Square in Barcelona. In the 50s and 60s of last century, Picasso organized each year a bullfight and an exhibition, usually about ceramic, in Vallauris, near his residence in the Côte d’Azur, France, for his friends and collectors. For every event, Picasso made a printmaking poster in linoleum. Many of his friends collected these posters and the artist used to sign dedications to his closest friends.
