The Museum of Montserrat, in a Catalan art show in Japan
The Museum of Montserrat collaborates in the exhibition The city of artistic miracles on the Barcelona of modernism that was opened this week in the Nagasaki Prefectural Museum of Art and that can be visited until April 5, 2020 in five museums and art galleries in Japan.
Various Catalan institutions have been involved in this show that consists of 120 works (paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, models, plans and objects). The exhibition, curated by Masami Mizuno, explains the transformation of the city of Barcelona and the artistic effervescence during the last decades of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th.
From the Museum of Montserrat we have collaborated with the loan of eight artworks. Three of them are usually in the permanent exhibition: two oils, Before the bath, by Ramon Casas, and The blue patio, by Santiago Rusiñol, and the drawing Studio for the portrait of Maria Carbona, by Salvador Dalí. The rest of the pieces that have travelled to Japan are usually in the reservation store; these are beautifully crafted drawings by great Catalan artists of this period: Chauffeuse, by Ramon Casas; Anarchist Rally, by Ricard Opisso; two gypsies by Isidre Nonell and Visit to the prison, by Ricard Canals.
For a whole year, the exhibition can be visited at the following venues:
- Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum. From April 10 until June 9, 2019.
- Himeji City Museum of Art. From June 29 until September 1, 2019.
- Sapporo Art Park. From September 14 until November 4, 2019.
- Shizuoka City Museum of Art. From November 12, 2019 until January 19, 2020.
