RIU SERRA. THE PRIMORDIAL FUTURE

Riu Serra. The primordial future
April 17, 2026 - September 13, 2026
Pere Daura Hall
Curator: Bernat Puigdollers

The exhibition presents a broad overview of Julià Riu Serra, one of the most distinctive and multifaceted figures in post-war Catalan art. It is not intended as an exhaustive retrospective. Instead, it traces a career marked by technical mastery and creative versatility. Riu Serra worked in sculpture, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, and various applied arts.

A pioneer in the renewal of sculpture in his time, Riu Serra developed a distinctive language of his own, focused on the essentiality of form and deeply engaged with the human condition.

The exhibition also reveals a lesser-known facet of the artist: that of a sharp and ironic draughtsman. He was able to observe reality with a critical, lucid, and deeply human eye. On the twentieth anniversary of his death, the exhibition invites visitors to rediscover the enduring relevance of his work.

The exhibition narrative also brings into focus Maria Rosa Barrera, the artist’s wife and a distinguished painter, whose work is being reassessed and studied as part of this project.
